The fingernail test
Run a fingernail across the scratch. If your nail glides over it, it is a fine scratch — scuffs, swirl marks, wiper marks, cleaning scratches — and it comes out cleanly. If your nail catches in it, the scratch is deep.
Deep scratches are still restorable in most cases, but they take more passes and more time, and we will say so before we quote rather than after.
This is the one thing we cannot judge from a photo, so it is the first thing we ask you. Depth does not show up on camera — your fingernail knows in a second what a picture cannot tell us.

When we tell you not to restore
Two honest cases. If the pane is small and ordinary, replacement can genuinely cost you less than restoration — and we would rather say that than take the job.
And if the damage sits right up against the frame, there is always some risk, which you will hear about before we start.
Everywhere else the math favours restoration.
Replacing the glass costs several times more than restoring the pane you already have — before labour, before the wait for the order, and with no guarantee the new pane matches the ones beside it.
How we work
- You send photos and tell us what the fingernail test says.
- We tell you what will come back and what will not.
- You get a written estimate before anyone drives out. The estimate is the price. If it turns out bigger than the photos showed, you hear it before we touch the glass.
- We work on site — homes, offices, storefronts, whole buildings pane by pane.
Questions we get asked
Will the glass look distorted afterwards?
Done properly, no. Distortion comes from taking too much material off one spot — that is what the step system and the temperature checks are there to prevent.
Could the pane crack?
Heat is what cracks glass, not the polishing itself. Our crews watch surface temperature while they work; it is the difference between a restored pane and a broken one.
Can I do it myself?
Fine scratches, yes — the DIY kit is the same pad system we use. Deep scratches need a steady hand and a machine that holds its speed; if we think you will make it worse, we will tell you.
Do you do a single window?
Yes, but there is a minimum for coming out. We will tell you the number before we schedule anything, not when we arrive.
What do you need from me to quote it?
Photos and a count. Shoot the whole pane, then a close-up at an angle with light running across the glass — that is what makes a scratch visible. Tell us how many panes are involved and where the glass is, and you get a written estimate back the same day.
