Start with the Step That Matches the Damage
The Step 1 Glass Polishing Pads are part of the professional Glass Restore step-by-step restoration system.
Step 1 is intended for severe glass damage that cannot be corrected effectively by starting with a less aggressive Step. It is commonly selected for:
- Deep glass scratches
- Acid-etched graffiti
- Acid damage
- Some extremely old or heavily bonded hard water deposits
- Damage that does not respond sufficiently to Step 2
Do You Always Need to Start with Step 1?
No.
The Glass Restore System is based on the condition of the glass—not on automatically beginning with the lowest Step number.
For most restoration jobs, we recommend testing Step 2 first. If Step 2 does not provide enough correction, return to Step 1 and then continue through the remaining Steps in sequence.
When Step 1 is required, follow the complete progression:
Step 1 → Step 2 → Step 3 → Step 4 → Step 5 → Step 6
This controlled process progressively refines the glass after stronger correction and helps produce a consistent professional finish.
A Complete System, Not a Random Collection of Pads
Choosing individual polishing pads without a defined process can lead to wasted time, inconsistent results, and unnecessary trial and error.
Every Glass Restore pad has a clearly identified Step within one complete restoration system. You select the appropriate starting Step based on the severity of the damage, then follow the required sequence to the finish.
This gives technicians:
- A clear starting-point strategy
- Less guesswork during restoration
- A repeatable professional workflow
- Consistent progression from correction to finish
- Pads that are easy to identify on every job

Our showroom windows had deep scratches that made the entire space look older than it was. Step 1 tackled the worst damage before I continued with the other polishing stages. The final appearance was dramatically better. I couldn’t be happier.
Carlisle Montgomery-Smyth –
We keep Step 1 in our contractor vans for emergency job-site saves. When glass panels get deeply scored during transport, this pad is the only thing aggressive enough to pull out those heavy flaws.
Danielle Morland –
Our warehouse entrance had several deep scratches from years of heavy use. Step 1 gave us the correction we needed without replacing the glass. After completing the remaining steps, the improvement was obvious. Very satisfied!
Roderick Sterling-Banks –
A vehicle arrived from auction with heavy key scratches carved deep into the side windows. Usually, deep key scratches mean scrapping the side glass, but Step 1 saved the panels. It removed enough material around the scratches to level out the gouges safely.
Harold Easton –
Very effective on older glass with heavy damage. I would absolutely recommend these pads.
Montgomery Ashford –
Saved an irreplaceable, deeply scratched curved windshield on a ’55 classic truck. Step 1 gave us the heavy grinding power needed to erase deep wiper gouges without cracking the vintage pane.

This isn’t a miracle pad, but it’s a serious correction pad. If the damage is heavy, this is where you want to begin. I’m glad I trusted the process because the final outcome was excellent.

Refitting a vintage mega-yacht meant dealing with heavy mineral oxidation and deep salt burns on thick marine portholes. Step 1 provided the heavy-duty grinding capability needed to strip away decades of marine glass degradation. Working through the complete 6-step progression restored pristine transparency to the vessel’s vintage glass. The yacht owners were blown away by the optical clarity.
Priscilla Leiy –
A previous tenant tried scraping paint off our patio doors with a razor and left deep gouges in the pane. Step 1 flattened the raised scratch edges fast!
Leonard Graves –
I’ve restored a lot of glass over the years, and aggressive pads usually feel difficult to control. This one stayed consistent throughout the job, which made the whole process much less stressful.

Barrett Whitmore –
Masons left wet cement splatters on our oversized picture windows, causing harsh alkali burns on the glass substrate. Jumped right in with Step 1 and it stripped away the calcified damage smoothly.

Thayer Henderson –
Chemical runoff from neighboring industrial stacks caused deep micro-pitting across our office exterior panes. Step 1 erased that entire degraded layer so we could refine the glass back to a mirror shine.
Tamsin Abercrombie –
Flying gravel on the quarry site left deep pit marks all over our loader’s front glass. Step 1 provided the serious abrasive power needed to smooth out those heavy impacts before moving to lighter steps.
Gregory Millstone –
Step 1 doesn’t hide the damage—it actually starts removing it. That’s what stood out to me. The rest of the system simply refined what this pad started
Graham Hollings –
I almost gave up on an old glass door because the scratches were so deep. Step 1 gave me enough correction to keep moving through the process instead of replacing the panel. That alone saved me a lot of money.
Alaric Montgomery-Phelps –
Sourcing an original, date-coded windshield for a 1968 classic sports car is near impossible, but the one we had was heavily gouged by a broken wiper arm. Step 1 gave us the necessary grinding strength to remove enough glass material to flatten those deep arc scratches safely. The pad maintained consistent cutting action across the complex curved pane without overheating the laminate layer inside. It saved an irreplaceable piece of automotive history for our build.
Heather Bromley –
